Oneida Bird Monitoring Program

About the Oneida Bird Monitoring Program (OBMP)

This project supports a partnership among four organizations: Oneida Nation of Wisconsin, Northeastern Wisconsin (NEW) Bird Alliance, Audubon Great Lakes, and UW-Green Bay's Cofrin Center for Biodiversity in the greater Green Bay, WI region.

Through this collaborative effort, we began monitoring birds at restoration sites owned and managed by the Oneida Nation in 2021 thanks to >100 dedicated volunteers.

We monitor spring migratory waterfowl and shorebirds (~March–June), breeding marsh, grassland, forest, and shrubland birds (May–June), and fall migratory waterfowl and shorebirds (~July–November). We will form small teams (2–5 people) that connect a community of birders and Oneida Nation members for a shared experience in nature through community science and storytelling.

Want to Volunteer?

All volunteers are welcome, beginner to experienced. Interested volunteers will receive options for monitoring assignments in a follow up email.
