This project supports a partnership among four organizations: Oneida Nation of Wisconsin, Northeastern Wisconsin (NEW) Bird Alliance, Audubon Great Lakes, and UW-Green Bay's Cofrin Center for Biodiversity in the greater Green Bay, WI region.
Through this collaborative effort, we began monitoring birds at restoration sites owned and managed by the Oneida Nation in 2021.
We aim to monitor: spring migratory waterfowl and shorebirds (~March-June), breeding marsh, grassland, forest, and shrubland birds (May-June), and fall migratory waterfowl and shorebirds (~July-November). We will form small teams (2-5 people) that connect a community of birders and Oneida Nation members for a shared experience in nature through community science and storytelling.
All volunteers are welcome, beginner to experienced. Interested volunteers will receive options for monitoring assignments in a follow up email.
Click the button below for our Survey Calendar to see when we are headed out for monitoring. You are welcome to tag along for as many surveys as you like. In the details for the signup, you will find out what to expect, what to wear, what to bring, and where to meet up with a bird expert and other volunteers.
See you soon!
